2011 wedding highlights – portrait edition

I can’t believe that 2012 is almost here. Brand new concept for you, I know. But seriously, wasn’t 2011 just beginning?? With that in mind, I thought I’d revisit a few portraits from some of my 2011 weddings. My clients are such incredible blessings to me, and I’m so thankful for them all. God has blessed me over and over this past year, and I know He has even greater things in store for next year – so let’s go 2012!

To my 2011 wedding clients, and everyone else I’ve had the opportunity to work with this year – You are such amazing people that I’m so blessed to call friends. You have trusted me with your wedding days, engagements, bridals, and so much more. For that I’m humbled, grateful, and extremely honored. I pray that God would bless 2012 for you in ways you can’t even imagine. And of course, I hope I get to see each of you sometime soon – especially those of you from far far away!

Loved the villa where Alicia got ready.

Alicia’s gift was two-fold from Drew – a camera, because “now she has things to photograph”, & a beautiful bracelet.

To put her dress on, Alicia and her girls moved from the villa to the prep room inside the winery. Normally I’m not a fan of really dark, enclosed rooms to get ready, but everything was so golden in here that I made an exception.

When I arrived for the day, Alicia told me that she wished the sun would come out for a little while, but she knew that I’d love the overcast skies.

Beautiful.

Drew was equally as happy with his gift from Alicia.

I loved Drew’s progression of expressions when he saw Alicia for the first time walking to meet him to become his wife.

Alicia + Drew – Y’all are amazing and I’m so glad to call you both friends! Your day was perfect and I’m thrilled to have shared it with you. I couldn’t be more excited for you both!

I met Kaitlin over Skype back in March, and I loved her from the start. Now usually I like to meet my clients for the first time in person, but since she lives in Texas, video chat was definitely the next best option. And it was definitely a great meeting. I knew that I was going to love working with her and Josh. They live in Texas but Josh’s uncle lives in Greenville and they just love the city from visiting, so they knew this is where they wanted to have their wedding. They assembled an all-star team of vendors to help them plan from afar, and I was so excited to work with everyone. On top of all that, the weather in the upstate has been incredible lately, and this past Saturday didn’t disappoint. I had such a blast with everyone, and I hope you enjoy!

Being from out of town, the Wyche Pavilion was the perfect location for their ceremony to have the best of Greenville. Located right in the center of downtown, the open air venue was incredible for their cool fall wedding.

Since Kaitlin & Josh aren’t from Greenville and the love the town so much, they opted for most of my time with them to be allocated for portraits around the city. With that in mind, I met them at the the Pavilion to start off their day with their first look!

I was so excited when I saw that my friend Jonathan’s band, Fortunate Sons, was doing the ceremony music. They’re a fantastic group and I’d highly recommend them to anybody as a small group for ceremonies, or their full band for receptions.

Married!

Beautiful couple & beautiful light.

After we finished up shooting portraits around the heart of downtown, everyone jumped in one of the downtown trolley’s and headed to the reception.

After we got off the trolley at the stadium, we had the whole place to ourselves. And we made use of it.

The reception was held at the 500 Club at Fluor Field, the Greenville Drive baseball stadium. It’s the perfect spot to look out over the field and the west side of Greenville.

Table 301′s passed sweet potato fries & mini corn dogs in spicy mustard appetizers were DELISH.

When your reception is in the baseball stadium, why just have the bridal party announced like everywhere else when you can have everyone introduced by the team announcer over the PA and run out of the team tunnel?

Stadium bleachers make for a great ring stage.

The toasts were amazing and you knew they were from the heart.

After the toasts, the party began. It was definitely the best way to stay warm with the chilly night breeze!

Kaitlin + Josh – Congrats on an amazing start to your marriage! It was such an honor to work with you both and your families. Thank you so much for letting me share your day. I hope you’re having a blast in Maui!

Sunday weddings are amazing. There’s something about them that seems to inherently let the day as a whole be more relaxed. This was completely true for Sharon + Scott’s wedding this past weekend. Nobody was rushing around, stress seemed to be non-existent, and everyone was having a good time. The way a wedding day should be. It was so easy to be around them and their wedding party. Sharon + Scott are Clemson grads that now live in Virginia, but they wanted their wedding to be back home in the upstate. I knew from our first time meeting over Skype that I would love working with them, and I did. Marriage is just amazing, and I’m so excited for them both to start this new stage of their lives together. Enjoy a few highlights from their day this past Sunday!

Sharon’s dress was a beautiful drop waist Enzoani.

Sharon’s makeup was done by the fabulous Jennifer Mederos. Jennifer & I recently worked together on a personal shoot as well that I’m excited to post soon!

I loved the simple beauty of Sharon’s florals from Twigs.

Sharon had two beautiful vintage-style garters – one to keep and one to toss.

Needless to say, she was ecstatic after reading her card from Scott and opening up her brand new iPad 2. Scott wasn’t to be left out though – his custom golf club fitting is simply a post-wedding day activity.

Their son Channing was with them all day. He did his very best to steal the show a time or two – and how could he not?

After the ceremony, everyone headed out back to the Crystal Pavilion for bridal party announcements and the first dance.

As soon as their first dance was over, we went back outside for some portraits.

Sometime soon, I’ll be shooting a post-wedding bridal session with Sharon, so consider these a little preview. I already can’t wait – you’re stunning Sharon.

Scott’s mother/son dance quickly turned into a mother/son/grandson dance.

It wasn’t long into the reception before Channing took control of the dance floor. At this point, it was safe to say that the show had been stolen. Well, at least for this song.

Mollie & David are an awesome couple, and I was so excited to be part of their day with them this past weekend! The recent heatwave was as heatwave-y as ever, but that didn’t stop their wedding from being the fairytale they’d planned it to be. Their day was filled with beauty and laughter, and tons of family & friends. I’ve said it before, but I really love photographing a friend’s wedding who I’ve known for a while. It’s really such an honor to document their day and see their relationship come full circle…and it’s just plain fun. I loved getting to see so many friends from college and catching up on where everyone is in life! I’ve known Mollie since her freshman year at Clemson but didn’t have a chance to know David until the last few months throughout their engagement. He has a servant’s heart and loves her in such an honest way, putting her before himself. I’m thrilled for the beginning of their new life together as husband and wife. Marriage is the best thing ever. Oh yeah, and Mollie & David are our new neighbors so +1 for that!

This ring was David’s wedding gift to Mollie. The gold came from melting down an heirloom piece. Priceless.

I said this before in Mollie’s bridal post earlier this week, but I loved her dress. Her handmade dress is an Anna Maier-Ulla Maija Couture, designed by Charles Bunstine III. Beautiful.

David opted for tails in his classic black and white tux.

First look! David was so excited to see Mollie for the first time as his beautiful bride.

The little church garden was the perfect spot for their first look and to start their portraits.

We quickly headed back inside for a little while for more portraits before we all melted. If you live in the south, you can understand why with the incredible 95-100º heat we’ve been having lately! The beautiful church sanctuary was letting in some gorgeous light through the stained glass windows so we took advantage of it!

Ceremony time!

Mollie & David’s reception was held at the Upcountry History Museum in downtown Greenville. This is definitely a new favorite indoor reception venue of mine!

Mollie is a former Rally Cat (Clemson’s varsity dance team) and was on the same team that Katie was on. If you’ve ever been to a Rally Cat wedding, you know that it’s a must to have a Rally Cat reunion on the dance floor for Tiger Rag! Go Tigers.

Mollie + David – Congrats!! I’m so excited for you both! Your wedding was a fairy tale and I’m honored to have been part of it with you. I hope you’re having a blast in Punta Cana! Can’t wait to be neighbors.

If you follow me on Twitter, you may have seen that I joked on Saturday morning, after seeing the forecasted high temperature, that Amy & Brett’s wedding festivities would include sidewalk egg-frying and dashboard cookie-baking. Unfortunately, my last-minute wedding day suggestions were in vain. What would giving it the old college try have hurt? Right?? (Maybe sometime’s it’s a good idea to NOT listen to the photographer. ) It’s such a pleasure to be around couples that just have fun together. Refreshing even, in some cases. Luckily for me, my clients are amazing and I’m blessed to have that privilege on a regular basis. Amy & Brett are that couple. They laugh, joke around, and I think they’d enjoy even a root canal if they had it done by the other’s side. Not that I’m suggesting root canals for pleasure, but you get the idea. Their wedding was great to be part of. Both of them were excited yet calm, and they couldn’t wait to say their I do’s. Their family and friends surrounded them with love and encouragement all day long. The weather was warm indeed, but everything turned out beautifully so I hope you’ll enjoy a few of my favorites from their day!

Amy choice of shoes was slightly opposite of most. The white flip-flops were for the ceremony and the pink heels were for the reception. Why? Because “I can’t dance in flip-flops!”

Brett has a beautiful 11-year old daughter and they both absolutely love kids, so all of their relatives’ children were naturally invited to the wedding. After their toast and cake-cutting, I think Amy needed a large stick to fend them off before they stole her cake!
