Having the opportunity to document one of my best friends’ wedding is a privilege. Really. Shane has been one of my closest friends for several years now, and I couldn’t have been happier to see him and Mallory commit to one another for life. Their entire wedding day was filled with laughter. Family and friends showed them just how much they’re truly loved. Yet as many people as were there (almost 400!) Shane was focused on Mallory, and Mallory was focused on Shane. The love and joy they showed for the beginning of their new life together was undeniable. I’m so excited for them! If you were at their wedding I hope you relive their day, and if not, I hope you see the spirit of celebration evident throughout their day.

Garden weddings on a summer evening are beautiful. Especially when the bride and groom are completely caught up in the realization that by the night’s end they will be husband and wife. Cole and Faith’s wedding at Twigs Tempietto in Greenville, SC was a small, simple late afternoon wedding. Twigs is such a neat venue because it’s a small, quaint garden setting tucked away right by Haywood Mall. The atmosphere doesn’t at all let on that you’re right by the biggest mall in the upstate. They became clients of mine a couple of months after I shot Cole’s sister Erin’s wedding back in December. (I love that my job allows me to get to know my clients and become friends with them and their families. I feel like that’s a unique part of a wedding photographer’s job that most other wedding vendors don’t get to experience.)

They decided on doing a first look – one of my favorite things to hear as a photographer. This time is so incredible because it allows you as a bride and groom to see each other and react to one another in an private setting. The excitement is just amazing. Katie and I did a first look and it was one of the best decisions of our entire wedding day!

Engagement sessions are awesome. There’s no pressure, options for clothing and colors, and no shots of the two of you with one of your arms extending through the frame because you’re holding your point-and-shoot camera out as your own photographer. Engagement sessions are even better when you have an amazing couple in front of the camera to work with and they’re willing to do things like run in and out of a country road, dodging the cars as they fly by for a shot just because you asked them to. Lauren and Chris’s engagement post has been at the front of my to-do list since getting back to real life from our honeymoon. Ever since we met for their consultation, I was excited to get to know them better. Since both of them are Clemson grads, we spent an evening in and around downtown Clemson and Pendleton for their session. After their session, we just chatted as the sun went down about photography and their wedding. (I love when photography is important to a couple!) I’m already excited for Lauren’s bridal shoot and their wedding next May at the Ryan Nicholas Inn in Simpsonville!

So, this is my first post as a married man!! Mine and Katie’s wedding was just over two weeks ago and it still blows my mind that she is now my wife, we’re not in separate cities anymore, I get to live with my best friend, etc etc etc…I could go on and on. Our wedding was an absolute blast and getting to share our day with our friends and family was just incredible. Ever since we got back from our honeymoon, I’ve been trying to play catch-up with the blog, editing, emails, yada yada yada – but now that we’re back, I’ve got several weddings and other shoots lined up to post over the next couple of weeks so get excited! The first is Mallory’s bridal session. I loved this shoot. Plain and simple. We shot back in the middle of May and I’ve been wanting to post these ever since. Shane and Mallory’s wedding was in July and it was such a privilege and a blessing to document their day for them. Their wedding is just one of the many posts to be looking out for soon! Like I said yesterday, there are several shoots and weddings I’ve really been wanting to post and I’ve finally gotten caught up enough (keyword – enough. Still not “caught up”…) to get some of them posted! Shaw’s bridal session was really a blast. Her and Stephen’s wedding (which will be up right after this post) was at the Ryan Nicholas Inn in Simpsonville, SC. Stephen has been serving in the Air Force out in Texas for the few months leading up to their wedding and she was definitely excited to have him back with her! Enjoy her bridal shoot while I finish up their wedding post!

During college at Clemson, my now soon-to-be-wife was one of the Rally Cats (captain actually; I’m proud of her) – the university’s official dance team. Part of dating a Rally Cat is getting to know all of the other Rally Cats. Meg, however, was not just one of those Rally Cats but also one of Katie’s closest friends. Back at the end of May (yeah I know, this post has been a long time coming…), Meg and her fiancé, Chase, asked me to come to their hometown of Murfreesboro, TN, which is just outside of Nashville, to do their engagement session. I was thrilled because I love traveling for my clients. Getting to go to new cities and locations is one my favorite parts of my job.

One of Chase’s hobbies is restoring old John Deere Tractors. He really does a killer job at it too! So we started at the home of one of those tractors in a field nearby…

I love this last one with the tractors. Next, we headed over to a park just in the city with sunlight galore.

Chase is a firefighter so we finished up at his fire station for one last dramatic shot.

I’m already excited to go back to Tennessee for Meg’s bridal shoot in a couple months and again for their wedding in December!

I got a phone call one night around 9:30 back at the beginning of the year from a number I didn’t recognize. I curiously answered, wondering who would be calling at that time that I didn’t know. With an excited tone of voice, Leila goes on to tell me that she’s interested in booking me for her wedding this coming summer…and that she’s calling me from Guam! I instantly became much more interested in this phone call. Naturally, my first question was, “Where will your wedding be located??” However, the wedding was not in Guam but their story is much more interesting than just Guam.

Leila is a teacher at a Christian school in Guam. Last year while on her way to start her new life, part of her flight schedule was routed through Japan. Little did she know at the time that so was James’ flight schedule – on his way to Guam. Yes, they met in the airport – in Japan – both on their way to the same little remote island in the Pacific. Less than a year later, James had proposed and their wedding journey began. They flew back into the states only a few weeks before their big day and still managed to successfully pull everything together. Their wedding was relatively small on a Friday afternoon in Columbia and it was so wonderful to finally meet them both after having phone conversations and emails across the world for several months. It’s always a little bit unpredictable to capture a couple on their wedding day without having done an engagement or bridal session with them before, much less having NEVER MET THEM! But my thoughts of how they would interact with me and each other quickly disappeared as soon as I met them and then saw them together. Their joy for each other was so evident that everybody was just at ease. I was so privileged to capture their day for them and I’m so excited for them to begin their new life together back on that little remote island in the Pacific.

They decided on doing a “First Look”. This was the first one I’ve shot and I was instantly hooked. The private emotion between bride and groom is just amazing. I love seeing their faces and excitement for one another. Katie and I will be doing this on our wedding day and I can’t wait to see her as my bride for the first time!

Mine and Katie’s wedding is coming up – in 9 DAYS!!! We can’t wait! Now with that in mind, the last few weeks leading up to our wedding have simply rearranged my schedule for me in a number of ways – namely for this purpose, blogging. I have several things that I’ve been itching to post but have just been running around like crazy with weddings, other shoots, and oh yeah, OUR OWN WEDDING. Ok whew…

Emily & Cam’s wedding was perfectly them. Relaxed and and little bit country. Their ceremony was held at the beautiful Pretty Place Chapel at Camp Greenville. The chapel sits right at the top of a mountain on the border of North and South Carolina with a view that is simply amazing. Then, their reception was held back at the rustic and inviting Table Rock Lodge at Table Rock State Park. Love, family, and friends surrounded every aspect of their day and I was blessed to have had the opportunity to share it with them. They’re both good friends of mine and I know God has great things in store for their marriage. Congrats to you both! I said this before on her bridal session post, but I loved her dress and she looked amazing in it.

Emotion was flooding Cam’s face when he saw his beautiful bride coming down the aisle to meet him. Priceless. I can’t wait to experience this in just over a week!
