A few weeks ago, Ken asked me to help him out on a project for an upcoming series at NewSpring called “Practical Atheist.” He wanted to do a motion graphic piece for the series opener video, but his idea was to use still images instead of video clips or computer graphics. The vision for the project was to shoot three sets and each set would showcase an example of someone who goes to church and claims to be a Christian, but their actions show quite differently and don’t seem to match up. I got to spend the day with Ken, Amanda, and Will shooting and making things happen. Ken’s final piece, which can be seen here or here, includes several shots from each set to give a story-like feel and follow the person’s thought in the situation. However, I just decided to post one image from each that shows the overall thought for the particular set.
For the first set, we wanted to show someone in their office irritated because his wife is calling and therefore decides to ignore her call…
The second set shows a severe lack of generosity. He has obviously just finished a very large, expensive meal at a nice restaurant, yet decides to tip only a single penny…

And the final set shows someone stuck in traffic in the exit lane of the church parking lot after leaving a church service. His anger seems to have gotten the best of him…

Thanks to Andrew, Charles, and Chip for being part of the shoot with us. We definitely had a blast working on these and I’m excited to finally be able to put these up now that the series has begun!
**Note: For the actual series opener, Ken edited the entire piece all together in After Effects whereas the photos here on my blog include my own edits.
